Veterans: A Legacy of Bravery and Sacrifice

Some History of our Post

On December 19, 1945, a group of Marshall County VETERANS returning from WWII met in the Marshall County Courthouse for the purpose of organizing an Overseas Veterans Group, known as Veterans of Foreign Wars. The group voted to apply for a charter from the National Headquarters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. The application required a name for the local post and the group agreed 100% that the name should be “Bill Lowe Wheatley Post 5109” in honor of the first Marshall Countian killed in action in WWII PFC Wheatley.

PFC Wheatley died in defense of his country on April 3, 1943 in Tunisia, Africa. His remains were returned to the U.S. and laid to rest in Lone Oak Cemetery in Lewisburg, TN. As the VFW was created to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in a Foreign War as well as defend and support those who returned we at Post 5109 strive to honor all Veterans with whatever needs they may have to the best of our ability.

Commanders Message

Welcome to VFW Lewisburg!

Bill Lowe Wheatley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5109 has been a proud part of the Marshall County community for almost 80 years. During that time, we have sponsored youth sports teams, student essay contests, built ramps for disabled vets, helped with utility bills for veterans in need, supported the Civil Air Patrol with leadership awards and numerous other community service events.

We can support those actions because of the generosity of the Marshall County Community. We are thankful for all donations, but also the customers in our canteen. We have a great menu that we are proud of and encourage everyone to try us out. All proceeds from the Canteen go directly to support the local veterans here in Marshally County.

Thank you for your continued support and come see us.
